Same Day Crowns in Yuma AZ
Innovation at the Yuma, AZ dentist office of Dr. Carroll has made tooth restoration easier, more convenient, more accurate and overall less worrisome for patients.
What is CEREC?
CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics or CERamic REConstruction. Translated, it means that we can economically restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using a high-quality bio-compatible ceramic material that matches the natural color of your other teeth.
How does the instrument work?
CEREC uses CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer, and milling machine in one instrument. We use a particular camera to take an accurate picture of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where we use CAD technology to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically creates the recovery while the patient waits. Finally, we bond the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The whole process takes about one hour, and crowns take only about 1.5 hours.
What does this innovation mean for a patient?
A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings are discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant.
The CEREC process eliminates you having to come back for the second visit because the CEREC equipment can reside in the dentist’s office and the dentist will use the CEREC equipment to work on your tooth while you wait.
Given this new process, here are some advantages of this CEREC crown technology for patients over traditional dentistry:
The patient only needs one visit instead of two or more, saving time and money
The computer-aided design ensures an exact fit eliminating biting problems and return visits
The patient does not have the cost and bothers of a temporary crown
The CEREC dental crowns are made out of ceramic, use no metal and are aesthetically pleasing
Despite all these advantages, many Yuma dentists have not embraced this modern dental technology for some reasons including the cost of obtaining the dental equipment, and the time needed for the training. The challenge is finding a Yuma dentist who has the CEREC equipment and experience necessary for successful results. Dentists using CEREC must obtain additional training to achieve the results that are possible with the technology, which Dr. Carroll has far exceeded these requirements!
